A hands-on, practical course where you will learn everything you need for growing your plants on moss poles. 

Have you ever wanted to mount your plants onto a moss pole but were too intimidated to do so? Do you wonder how you’re going to keep the moss moist and how to get the plant to root into the pole successfully? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this course is for you. 

You will leave this course with the following:

  • Knowledge on moss pole benefits, best plants for moss pole mounting, moss pole potting mixes, mounting your plants onto moss poles, encouraging moss pole rooting and caring for plants on moss poles;
  • A plant (marble queen pothos or similar) that you’ve mounted onto either a 28cm traditional wire framed moss pole or 30cm prism moss pole during the course;
  • A device for watering your moss pole; and
  • Confidence to continue mounting your plants onto moss poles and caring for them successfully.

  • Venue: JFF Plant Shop (44 Stanley Ave, Braamfontein Werf, Johannesburg, 2092)
  • Time: 10:00 – 12:00 (please arrive at least 10 minutes before the course, the course will start promptly at 10:00)

Darren from @plantdadchronicles on Instagram will be leading the course. He is a moss pole enthusiast that has mounted many a plant on a moss pole and has picked up many tips and tricks along the way.

Hands on and practical

Course outline

We believe that the best way to learn how to do something is by doing. So, additional to providing the theory, you will also in the course be:

  1. Crafting your own moss pole aroid mix
  2. Installing a moss pole securely in a pot
  3. Mounting your plant onto the moss pole and potting it up
  4. Creating your own moss pole watering device
  5. Ensuring that your plant will continue to climb up its pole and root into it
